Increasing anti-firearm propaganda, promoted by select political leaders, and these three significant events became the catalyst for the formation of C.R.A.L.:

  • the Million Mom March
  • the policy of denying permits-to-carry by the RI Attorney General's office
  • new gun legislation in MA that all but eliminated the sales of new handguns
1. The Million Mom March epitomizes the misinformation campaigns of the liberal gun grabbers encouraged by select politician.  First of all, the march was supposed to be organized by and participated in by ordinary  mothers.  The leader, however, was a media relations expert who worked in the media industry and had strong ties to the Clinton/Gore administration.  The basic truth is that the MMM was nothing more than a politically organized event to develop support for the Gore presidential campaign.

Additionally, the attention was centered around celebrities...ordinary mothers were difficult to even find!  Most importantly however, was the spreading of misinformation that formed the basis of the organization.

Sure, it is terrible that kids die.  The tool is irrelevant.  Accidents, crimes, gangs and drugs existed long before the availability of handguns and will exist long after.  In order to emotionally charge this march, the 'moms' talk of the large number of children killed by guns, however they forget to mention that according to the National Center for Health Statistics and the National Spa and Pool Institute 2.5 times as many children (ages 0-19 yrs.) died by drowning when compared to firearm related accidental deaths.  Considering that firearms outnumber pools by 30-to-1, the risk of drowning in a pool is nearly 100 times greater than firearms related accidents.  Their statistics do not, shall we say, "hold water".
 

2. Former Attorneys General, Arlene Violet, James ONeil, Jeffrey Pine and others, rightfully issued permits to those applicants who had no criminal background, no history of violence and no mental health issues.  The policy of current RI Attorney Generals office is that a permit-to-carry will only be issued to those applicants who can prove an ongoing threat to their lives.  Under his guidelines, most applicants will not qualify.  Apparently, living in the State of RI with its murders, assaults, rapes, robberies, home invasions and car jackings is not reason enough to allow residents to protect themselves and their families.
 

3.  Massachusetts recently enacted new legislation quietly through that back door that all but eliminated the sale of new handguns in the state.  Taking firearms under the guise of 'Consumer Protection' laws, the new laws require many features that most guns do not incorporate -- thus eliminating their ability to be sold.  Example - All semi-automatic handguns must not be able to be fired when a magazine is removed.  What happens if is becomes necessary to fire a weapon during a mag change while defending your family?  The list of restrictions goes on and on.  New guns that are compliant are being slowly reintroduced, but many manufacturers refuse to make the necessary changes, keeping their guns unsellable in MA.  Follow the link for the details.  Still think "It couldn't happen here"?

These events shook our rights to the bone.  The liberal gun grabbers will not stop until every law-abiding citizen is disarmed.
